Always

Studio 08Studio 08Hi there!

Once a week I will try to describe different aspects of the songs on the album and post it on my blog. I'm starting of with the second song which is "Always".

The story behind this song is kinda two sided. On the musical side this song is a product of a way to put your capo backwards. I learned this from the great Norwegian musician and songwriter Steinar Albrigtsen. At the time I was working backstage at Wrightegaarden, Langesund as backstage security, and had to drive SA and his band back to the hotel.

We started talking and ended up talking about his new signature guitar. As we reached the hotel SA took the guitar out of his bag so I could try it out. It was 03 am out on the hotel parking lot when SA showed me the cool trick of flipping the capo in the 2nd fret. The day after "Always" was born, and I think this is a cool song.

The coolest thing with this song, is that it consists of four different kinds of beats. 4/4, 6/8, 5/8 and a shufflebeat that is hidden within... As with all of my songs, me and the guys have worked hard to hide this so that the song appears quite simple. But for all you counting freaks, this is a treat.

When it comes to the lyrics, it's all about my grandmothers porcelain dolls. Back in the eighties I used to spend my holidays at my grandmothers, and in the guest room she had a bunch of them. It was the way the never changed that inspired this lyric. They had these gorgeous dresses and appeared in kind of a Shakespearian way, so the lyrics is also written a bit that way. There you have it. The stories of the song Always..
